Water can be tested for health concerns, government standards, a first time water test or even real estate transactions. Testing can range from simple bacteriological analysis to complex and extensive scans to determine the presence (or absence) of naturally occurring elements, chemical pollutants from human activities, or animal caused contamination.
Simple testing often includes bacteriological, nitrate, and arsenic testing. More complex testing may include scans for pollutants from manufacturing, dry cleaning, agricultural, or other local land use where pollutants have entered the local water table or surface water. Testing may include analysis for general mineral, inorganic chemicals, water hardness, and the general physical conditions of color, odor, and turbidity.
